BRAGG CREEK DAYS July 23 -25, 1999
Sponsored by the Bragg Creek Community Association (BCCA)
It is the main event in our community. The Saturday morning parade is the highlight. The two pancake breakfasts fuel the many games and activities throughout the day. We have collection of images to help record this day to remember.
We had a great day . . . . until it rained. What’s with our weather this year? Will summer ever come? If you’re not familiar with southern Alberta weather, you should know that it is hot and dry. Dry, so that the grass turns brown mid summer. The creeks dry up and you dare not head out for a day in the outdoors without sun block and something to drink. Well this year we had snow a few weeks before Bragg Creek Days and just a week before I had a pile of hail 8 cm (3 in.) deep on my deck.
Hey! You up there – I was joking when I set up my “Goofie Goalie” game with a comment about winter in July. It’s cold and wet here, but that didn’t stop the fun early Saturday.
The theme this year was a celebration of our seniors. A recognition of the contributions made to our community and our society. The United Nations declared 1999 as their year and we are proud and glad to celebrate it along with our seniors.
The Calgary Stampede provided their mobile stage again this year. It comes complete with a sound system.
|“The Deputies” were here with their country music sound to entertain the folks that came out for the Firefighters pancake breakfast.|
|Wally and Dale Cross lead their Re/Max float along the parade route.||The Re/Max float came home to Bragg Creek after it’s second tour at the Calgary Stampede parade.|
|The Bragg Creek Kindergarten||The Community Church float featured a music and song|
|The Camp Cadicasu gang won my vote for the most rowdy – erh I mean spirited bunch.||The Bar KC ranch riders lead a float with their salute to our seniors.|
|Looks like a seat was hard to get in the M&M Ranch wagon.||Seniors celebrating being young at heart.|
The Astro Jump
|The Community Kindergarten provided the ever-popular AstroJump and a colourful decoration on the children’s cheeks.|
|Volunteers make it all happen and no one worked harder to organize the activities and set up the facilities than Bob Jackson and Sharon Duncan. After a hectic day Saturday they enjoyed a fine breakfast at the Village Market Mall. The mall merchants and Dr. Jim McNab put on a fine breakfast Sunday morning.||More than a hundred people came out to enjoy the meal and the music of the Deputies. There were a few runners of the 10-km marathon in the crowd, as well as a couple of bicycle riders from Belgium who stopped in on their way from Alaska to Terra Del Fuego, Argentina.|
|A couple of players discuss the fine points of the “Hole in the Head” mini putt game sponsored by toloko.com.||Perseverance pays as this duffer found the line to the hole through the trees and traps.|
Thanks to M&M Ranch for supplying the saddle ride. To Roper Graphics for “Catch a Critter” lasso game. To the Kid’s Kastle for a valiant effort to blow away the clouds with bubbles.
|Before and after – the Courtney Love target was supposed to get washed out by water canon shooters at the Inside Out game, but the rain did the damage – to the target and the afternoon’s Playpen events.|
