Campsites in the Elbow Valley
The operators are Kananaskis Country Campgrounds, phone number 403-949-3132.
Reservations can be made in person at the McClean Creek Store.
The McClean Creek Store’s Hours are:
Sunday – Thursday 10-6
Friday and Saturday 10-10
Starting around the May Long Weekend, they go 7 days a week, 10 to 10.
Elbow Valley Information Centre
The Elbow Valley Information Centre is operated by the province. It is only open during the summer for a few hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If it’s open when you drive by, stop in and say hello. Don’t tell them I sent you.

BackCountry Campgrounds

BackCountry permits are required to camp at any of the designated backcountry campgrounds in Kananaskis. The Elbow Valley has three campgrounds:
Big Elbow (6 units), Romulus (14 units), Tombstone (11 units). Purchase passes at the Elbow District office on Hwy 66 or call 1-403-678-3136. In Alberta call toll free by dialing 310-0000 first.
Free Zone Camping
One of the more common questions we receive at the Elbow Valley Information Centre is “Where can I camp for free?”.
Random camping is permissible in some areas. For information regarding this activity, please contact one of the Kananaskis Visitor Information Centres at the following numbers:
